One Place, Several Names with Ruth Davis Hawkins

"A poor house: A county shelter and services provided for the homeless, poor, and mentally/physically infirmed persons in past times. This presentation will include a brief history of poor houses in the U.S., Madison County, and Kentucky. Additionally, the talk will specifically discuss the Madison County location, its various names, funding sources, changes over time, and the people associated with it. There will also be some shared memories from some folks who lived nearby and from some who visited."
